Laura Servid, OT
is an Occupational Therapist who was introduced to Aston Patterning in 1988 when she was working at a Seattle hospital in in-patient rehabilitation. She soon discovered that the magic of working with gravity and ground reaction force was a powerful tool in assisting with stroke rehabilitation - after all, why wouldn’t our nervous system be designed to work with the gravitational field? It is where we live.
In the 30 plus years since that initial introduction, she has gone on to complete the Aston Training, the teacher training and established a now 22 year old private practice in Seattle. She has been on the Aston Faculty, written several articles on the Aston work for therapy journals and chapters for books, as well as presented an Aston Movement segment at a Fascial Congress.
The Aston work draws people in with a sense of possibility which allows them to see and feel changes they may have thought not possible. Subtle yet powerful bodywork regularly surprises clients with its ability to change tissue without a sense of being forced in a new direction. As an Occupational Therapist, she enjoys using Aston principles to help her clients do what they want to do - be it gardening, playing an instrument, sitting at a computer, improving their golf swing or simply vacuuming without pain - any movement that is part of their life.
Her website incorporates the ideas of Ayurveda, which she has been studying the past 4 years, with the Aston paradigm and lets people see how the elements and ideas of movement can be held in the larger framework of the wisdom of life. www.thespaciousspiral.com.
Now climbing into her 70’s, Laura still enjoys her work with clients 3 days a week, giving her time for teaching, her garden and her latest creations which are art works that weave together the idea of movement between opposites - a teaching that is central to the Aston paradigm. Soon those will be posted on her website.
